Do you enjoy finely crafted harmonies, bluesy guitar riffs, skillful swinging rhythm and one funky, playful, energetic night out? You need look no further than Skylark, the crew of fresh faces from Petaluma, California.
New to the scene, Skylark has caught the eye of many music-lovers and has quickly spread their sound around the bay. Within a month of forming, these up-and-comers entertained crowds at the historic Phoenix Theater in Petaluma and the famous 19 Broadway Club in Fairfax. Skylark was also invited and spent an acoustic hour on KRCB radio with host Mindy Berrett.
Skylark features Steve Hernandez, a 15 year old rhythm protégé on drums; Chris Antaki, a melodic groove-head with stimulating string and keyboard chops; Devin Lane, who lays down the funky heart-beat bass tones; and Steve Haney, a bluesy six-string slinger with passion.
Catch a Skylark show and you’ll
hear the ultra-catchy, "Pictures in the Sky" a
tale of a man who leaves his woman’s side to seek
his own meaning of truth around the world and
inside his soul. As guitarist Steve Haney says of
the song, "We are trying to capture the idea of
personal advancement through separation.
Sometimes you have to temporarily set aside
belongings or people or actions that you truly
love to work something out for yourself.
'Pictures in the Sky' is intended to be a
positive story about growth."
Some Skylark songs take a more
direct approach. "Dillon Beach" is a rockin’ hit
about a trip to the popular Sonoma County beach
of the same name. There are few things in life as
simple as enjoying the ocean air and "Dillon
Beach" captures the essence of a coastal outing.
"We don’t hold ourselves to any one direction or genre. We try to play what feels good and what makes us want to get up and dance around and act goofy. If that’s a song that sounds like funk, great! If it’s one that sounds jazzy, that’s ok too," says bassist Devin Lane.
Guitarist Chris Antaki adds, "We all have different styles and they meld and form into a final song. You’ll hear some blues and some funk and some rock and whatever else gets thrown in. The result is the music and a vibe that we love and want to share with you!" So the next time you’re looking for a great night out you should join Skylark as the boys share their joy for live music in the Bay Area!
